Hello gentle readers, Ha! I still love saying that! We are going GREEN in every way. Its time to get a couple of days marked on your calendar for a trip to the Coulee region and a wonderful stay at Castle La Crosse. Spring has been slow and gentle to arrive in our part of Wisconsin. I don’t know about yours, but it’s taken a while for things to turn green and plants start to bud. Now that it has started and we had a bit of rain, things are bursting and trying to get a jump on summer. The magnolias are blooming, but new to gardening, we didn’t realize the yellow ones arrive last. The pink variety is in full bloom this week, the white ones are just starting to fade. Then green season begins as everything leafs out. I love the cycle of things like that, how about you? If you have a special occasion coming up, an anniversary, birthday or celebrating retirement, let’s get your room reserved soon. I think it’s going to be hustling and bustling in La Crosse. I’ve seen the event calendars and they are full
In the meantime, let’s talk about Art and History. I’ll attach a link from Explore La Crosse, our dedicated travel and visitors bureau. They do a great job promoting our region and keeping everyone engaged. https://explorelacrosse.com/arts-and-history-itinerary-2/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Local-Women-Business-Owners-Blog-Art-History-Buff-Blog
May is Mental Health awareness month and no better thing for our mental health (and physical too) is a walk in the woods. We are surrounded by many trails. One favorite is the Hixon Forest trails you can practically see from the Castle. There are several trails into the woods, birdwatchers everywhere and the smell of nature all around to sooth whatever is racing through your mind. It’s hard to walk in the woods and think about anything else as you focus on your footsteps so you don’t take a wrong turn, hear the birds, feel the wind, smell Mother Nature doing her thing.
Back to going GREEN! In addition to all the greenery in the house and around it, we are going green with all of our products. It’s a process to reduce/reuse/recycle from top to bottom, but worth it for our own health and of course the planet and future generations that will inherit all we leave behind, good and bad. I don’t know if going green and getting certified will bring in new business, but we have to try to be mindful and do our best. I discovered I’m a lot more “cluttery” than I realized. So, out with the old! Boxes of clothes for charity, lots of things I have not used or touched in years, time to move those along to the next link in the chain of belonging. Whoever is next, I hope they enjoy it. That reminds me of one of my favorite stories, then I’ll let you get on with your day: Years ago a friend called to ask if I’d walk through his grandmothers house, she had just passed and they wanted to make sure they were not throwing out anything of great value. I walked through, grandma was a packrat. If there was anything in there, it was buried deep. I didn’t find much, a few things to consider keeping. When we decided to leave, I asked if we should take a peek in the garage, just in case there was an old Packard in there that grandma had driven to church. There wasn’t. There were more boxes of stuff, junk, a ball of aluminum the size of a basketball. No kidding! Now, grandma was about five feet tall and 90 years old. Yet, up on the top shelf over the work bench was a cardboard box labeled “LIGHTBULBS THAT MIGHT NOT WORK”
BUT THEY MIGHT WORK! I’m thinking we don’t need to check that, but what fun grandma was! Get your box down off the shelf, see if your lightbulb works and plan a trip to Castle La Crosse!
With Love
